I am the type of person that could go down a very long rabbithole of Makeup tutorials on Youtube. Actually, anything on Youtube turns into a rabbithole for me, but makeup happens to be one of my favorites.
There are so many brands and things to try in the makeup world the possibilities and combinations are seemingly endless! I’ve watched countless videos and reviews over the years ( who hasn’t??). It’s just so entertaining!
I’ve done some research over the years and have wasted too much money to find the perfect products that work with my skin tone and skin type. I think I have finally found it! I’m pretty pale and freckly, so needless to say, it has been hard to find things that actually work for me. I enjoy seeing what other people wear on a daily basis, and thought I would share some of my favorite makeup products.
I first started my primer spray quest last summer when I was needing make up for my wedding. An outside August wedding does no favors for makeup. I searched for SO LONG just trying to find something that would help my makeup last all day and all evening, and Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray was just what I was needing.
I spray this one freshly cleaned skin, let it dry, and apply my makeup. This works like a charm, and is a simple step that shouldn’t be overlooked! This does give the appearance of a matte look, so if you’re really wanting something dewy, I would give this a try!
I love Tarte’s Shape Tape Foundation for more than two reasons, but to save you time, I will only tell you about the most important ones!
Firstly, I am SO PALE. Never in my life have I found a winter foundation that matches my skin. I am red and blotchy and flaky all at the same time. I have tried countless foundations, only to find that they were too orange on my pale face. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I have spent on foundations! This right here, Porcelain, fits my skin tone PERFECTLY! I know there has been some controversy of the color range of this foundation in the past, but I’m pretty sure they have added some more, so you should definitely try them out!
The second reason I love this foundation, is that during the winter when I am patchy, it doesn’t cling to the dry patches to reveal how crusty I really am during this time of the year 😜 It’s just a nice, hydrating foundation that helps me stay a little dewy when I really need it!
The MAC and Laura Geller products shown above are three I absolutely adore. As you can see from the picture above, these highlights can be so subtle, but you can definitely build the color up to make them more reflective. They last forever and catch the sun like crazy! You’ll be shining (in a good way)! The Laura Geller highlighters are a little bit pricey, but totally worth it in my opinion.
The MAC Strobe Cream can be used in a variety of ways that include using it like a moisturizer, mixing it with your foundation, or adding it on top of your foundation to get a nice dewy finish. The choice is yours!
I really enjoy using the Tarte blushes. They are so pigmented and wear for so long. I bought a five pack of these about 6 months ago, and haven’t stopped using them since. My favorite colors are the one’s I have shown above, but can’t find them anywhere. Tarte has a decent selection of blushes on their website, so you can find your perfect matches here!
The Anastasia Brow Wiz has to be the most wonderful brow product I have ever used. I have searched and searched and searched for something that would save my eyebrows ( they’re pretty bare on the outer edges). The pencil is so convenient because it has a spoolie on one end, and a tiny crayon tip on the other. It fills my brows in so easily, and it actually looks very natural. A major plus is that this lasts all day for me! I know this is a little expensive at $21 dollars, but I’ve used this everyday for two months and I’m not even close to being done with it.
I’ve added a ‘stock’ photo of this palette above because mine is completely busted. It’s gone through too many travels with me, and we all know how person belongings are treated during a check in at the airport… I digress.
This Morphe 25B is easily my favorite eye shadow palette of all time. I usually find that eyeshadow palettes are too warm for my skin, but this one is just perfect. The price is SO affordable for everything you get, and the colors are super pigmented. All you need is a little and it goes a very long way! Try this and I know you won’t regret it.
Smashbox’s 24 Hour Photofinish Shadow Primer is amazing. All it takes is a small amount placed on your eyelid, and your shadow stays FOREVER. Never have I ever had a greasy crease in my eye shadow when I have used this. It comes in a light peachy/nude color, and is easily covered up by your eye shadow.
One of the best things about this, is that the product itself lasts so long. I had had this tube for over a year, and I’m only half way done!
I’m not one to go crazy over dark eyes. It makes me look super weird, and since my eyes are a little hooded, I need all the help I can get to open them up a bit. The NYX Faux Whites eyeliner in Seashell really helps with that. It’s so easy to pop on my waterline and go. I look 10x more awake after putting this on, and for $8.00, you can’t go wrong!
Mascara is so subjective. Everyone has different needs because the thickness in eyelashes are so different. I, myself, have pretty thick eyelashes, but want them to look fairly normal when I have mascara on. I’m not a fan of the spider/clumpy eyelashes, and just look for a nice extension on the lash. This does just that.
I bought the UD Troublemaker Mascara from Ulta on black Friday for only $10, and I’m so happy I did. This stuff lasts so long! It does such a great job at lengthening and separating my lashes. I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on this, but I love using this.
The only con about this is that it is EXTREMELY smudgy when you try to wash it off at the end of the night. I prefer mascara that separates and falls off in clumps, but the lasting power of this stuff makes the smudges well worth it.
If you’re a fan of tinted lip balm, this is for you. I use the Buxom Powerplump Lip Balm on a daily basis as a way to get a little tint on my lips without having to put full blown lipstick on. When opening the package, you’ll notice that the lip balm is a peachy color. Once applied to the lips, it turns a pink rosy color. So pretty!
This smells like peppermint and has a slight plumping effect. Nothing too crazy! I enjoy using this as it lasts a couple of hours on my lips and seems to nourish and condition them.
The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is my absolute HG lipstick. I can’t say enough good things about it. I wore this on my wedding day and it lasted so long I couldn’t believe it. The color ‘ophelia’ is described as a nude chestnut color, and I think it works so well for everyday use. When I’m feeling like adding a little spice to my everyday life, I use this. You cannot go wrong by trying any of the colors in this line. There are some wild ones, but amazing nonetheless!
I hope you all have enjoyed seeing some of my favorite makeup products! What are some of yours? Drop them in the comments below! I’m curious and would LOVE to try new things!
